Appaku mensetsu: Interview in a stressful situation

Interviewers sometimes purposely show an unfriendly attitude to candidates, asking some deliberately tough and direct questions. It is known as the “Appaku mensetsu” approach, a style of interview intentionally conducted in a simulated stressful situation. Its intention is to observe how candidates deal with any stress and pressure, and whether they can calmly react to it when they are pushed past their breaking point. However, it can be attributed simply to the personality of the interviewers and their particular interview techniques.
