In a business setting, chokkou means to “go straight to the client site” instead of clocking in at the office. When a visit to the client site is scheduled for the start of a workday, it is common for one to head straight to the site.

直帰 (chokki; go straight home)

Chokki in a business setting means to “go straight home” instead of clocking out at the office after visiting a client site. It is common for one to go straight home if a visit to the client site is scheduled for the end of a workday. Some companies also use “NR” (No Return) to mean chokki.

例:明日は○○社訪問後、直帰予定です。

 

直行直帰 (chokkou chokki; go straight to the client site and right back home)

Chokkou chokki means to go to a client site instead of the office (chokkou), visit multiple sites throughout the day, and head straight home afterward (chokki).

例:今日は○○社と○○社を訪問するため直行直帰します。

Some Japanese companies have rules stipulating employees to clock in or out at the office before and after visiting clients. However, a growing number of companies—starting with ventures—are allowing employees to head straight to the client site or to home.
