On June 20, business matchmaking service YOLO Gaikokujin Shain (YOLO Foreign Employees) was launched by YOLO JAPAN Corporation to connect foreign talents with the new residence status of Specified Skilled Worker and Japanese companies. YOLO JAPAN Corporation is a company that runs the media service of the same name aimed at foreign nationals living in Japan, and now has more than 100,000 subscribers of 224 nationalities and regions.
On YOLO Gaikokujin Shain, Japanese companies can share their job openings with more than 100,000 subscribers of YOLO JAPAN, and this helps them save considerable cost and effort otherwise required if they were to try to hire foreign talent directly from overseas. On the listing pages, job openings aimed at specified skilled workers are displayed separately from others, which is helpful for both foreign job seekers and Japanese companies to connect with each other efficiently.
For those staying in Japan on a student visa, dependent visa, or technical intern visa, the service will notify them if they are willing to switch status to a specified skilled visa, and offer visa support if they request, helping them stay in Japan longer.
The service asks prospective applicants to submit a short video introducing themselves in Japanese, so even if corporate recruiters have never hired foreign talents before, they can gauge their speaking proficiency or personality, and get an idea of prospective candidates before interviews.
According to the Immigration Services Agency, since the implementation of the Specified Skilled Visa Program in April, 711 foreigners have received the visa status in the past two months, and they expect this number to grow up to 30,000 within next three years. Currently this program is applied to 14 industries in Japan that are experiencing pressing labor shortages, and allows the visa holders to renew the statues for a maximum of 5 years. However, many foreign job seekers struggle to find a place to work, as Japanese companies haven’t readily planned out their recruitment strategies.
With the launch of YOLO Gaikokujin Shain, YOLO JAPAN is hoping to fill a gap between foreign job seekers and Japanese companies. If you are looking for jobs in Japan or looking to hire foreign talents efficiently, this service might be of use to you.
